17. Table Grapes

Table Grapes
6 x 6 Inches
Oil on Gesso Board

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2016 holds lots of great moments for all of us!

This past summer I really wanted to paint some of the beautiful AND delicious grapes
from Fresno State. While I got to enjoy them quite a few times last summer I never
did get around to painting them. I actually did have a still life set up with them at one
point but I didn't work on it quickly enough and the grapes withered! I didn't want to give
up on the idea though and then I saw these local table grapes at the grocery store. I really
liked their shape and color and decided THIS time I would paint that still life!

16. Fire Engine Red

Fire Engine Red
9 x 12 Inches
Oil on Gesso Board

The other day I read this quote on the internet, "The hardest thing about writing
a novel is finishing it." That's exactly how I felt about this painting! I almost
gave up on this painting half way through, and then again about two thirds of
the way through. When I feel the urge to give up on a painting I tell myself
"Just finish it and then you can decide if it's a keeper or not." I'm glad I made myself
finish this one! I haven't worn these red patent leather loafers in a while. I think
I'll break these out again in the fall and winter. It's fun to wear bright colors on gray days.

15. Peach Radiance

"Peach Radiance"
6 x 6 Inches
Oil on Gesso Board

I admit it, I selected a box of peaches from Costco based on how good I thought
the colors were for a painting. Lucky for me these peaches are delicious
and my family and I are having no problem consuming a whole box of them!

14. Petite Iron

"Petite Iron"
8 x 8 Inches
Oil on Gesso Board

I purchased this petite little iron at one of the many antique shops in Old Town Clovis.
While small, it presented a pretty big challenge when it came to rendering the subtle hints of color
in all the grays. I placed the iron on a piece of glass to get these reflections. The glass had just
a hint of green in it which created some interesting colors in the reflections. Overall I'm pleased with the outcome. I plan on revisiting subject matter similar to this, but for now my next piece will have LOTS of color and probably some simple organic shapes!

13. Red Pom Pom

"Red Pom Pom"
6 x 6 Inches
Oil on Gesso Board

Red is my all time favorite color so you'll be seeing plenty of it in my work!
I thought I would paint this pomegranate before eating it. I purchased several of these
and they've been delicious!

12. Three More Plums

"Three More Plums"
6 x 12 Inches
Oil on Stretched Canvas

I was curious to see how yesterday's plum would look on a light background.
I decided to paint it again and threw in two more plums since I'm partial to
groupings of three. I'm pleased with the painting and my curiosity is satisfied,
on to a different subject matter! The stretched canvas this is painted on
has a 7/8" profile. The profile of the canvas is painted in a color similar
to the background color where my signature is.
